Music and spanish News

With our Spanish language curriculum in full swing, it is only fitting that students also learn the music of Spanish-speaking countries. This February, our 5th graders will sing “Cantamos Americanos”, a collection of folk songs from the Americas. The music will be sung in English and Spanish and borrows folk songs from Jamaica, Mexico, Chile, and Cuba. Come join us in the gym on February 19 at 2:15 and 7:00PM for this delightful and exciting foray into Hispanic music!

Students in first, second, and third grade Spanish classes are in the process of learning two new songs, one about the days of the week, and the other about a cockroach (“La Cucaracha”). They are practicing the “Sign of the Cross” and the “Hail Mary”, and will have them mastered soon.

Students in grades 4-8 are learning the Spanish alphabet and a song that goes with it. Grades 7 and 8 are learning how to conjugate simple regular verbs. Adios!

Computer Class

Students in grades 4 - 6 are learning EVERYTHING there is to know about Microsoft Power Point 2007. This is a favorite unit among students because they learn how to add sound, recorded narration, background music and animations to their presentations. They can be very creative and have FUN while still learning.

Excel 2007Eighth grade is learning Microsoft Excel 2007. Although not as creative and fun as Power Point, Excel is essential for them to learn before going to high school. They will use Excel in Science classes in high school to track, summarize and chart results of their experiments.

Reminder

The first day of school for grades K-8 is Tuesday, August 19.

He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.
